Beautycounter Makeup & Skincare

A few weeks ago, I attended a Beautycounter event at The Park Cafe where I met Director Ashley Flores. Ashley was down from Georgia to share with us the mission of this two year old company: "To get safe products into the hands of everyone".

Isn't the packaging pretty?!

Here are some more interesting facts from the Beautycounter website:

Only about 10% of the 10,000 chemicals commonly found in personal care products have safety data.

What's worse is the Food and Drug Administration (the agency that regulates cosmetics) allows companies to use chemicals known to be extremely harmful (lead, formaldehyde, and phthalates) in the products we put on our bodies and on our kids every single day, day after day.

The United States has not passed a federal law to regulate the ingredients used in personal care products since 1938.

The European Union has spent the past two decades banning or restricting more than 1,300 ingredients, the US has only banned 11 to date.

[Beautycounter has} banned more than 1,500 ingredients setting a new health and safety standard

So now you're probably wondering if the make-up, lotion or cleansers you are putting on your face or your kids' faces are safe, right? Ashley also shared with us a website where you can find out: EWG's Skin Deep Cosmetics Database. Just type in the products you use and, if information is available, it will give you a hazard level. You want to be in the 0-2 range. My current cleanser is a 6. Yikes.

Beautycounter is also cruelty-free (no animal testing!!) and most products are vegan.

Some of the items I tried out and loved were:

Have you ever tried Beautycounter products?

*I was not asked to write this post nor am I being compensated for writing this post. I just wanted to share an up and coming brand that cares about what is in their products.*
