{Book Review}: salsas and moles

I'm originally from California and my husband is from Texas so we love our Mexican and Tex-Mex foods.  When I saw that salsas and moles: Fresh and Authentic Recipes for Pico de Gallo, Mole Poblano, Chimichurri, Guacamole, and More by Deborah Schneider was available for review on Blogging for Books, I jumped at the chance to check it out.

The first thing I look at when it comes to cookbooks are the pictures. Maren Caruso's photographs are really pretty, though I still don't understand the trend in leaving crumbs and stuff in pictures. (I noticed this in my last cookbook review of Citrus).

I love the guide to chiles at the front of the book because I do not have a ton of knowledge of chiles, especially the dried ones. I also enjoyed reading the section, "Working with Chiles" because it explained how to choose dried chiles and how to clean them (the author suggests that you always wear disposable gloves).

I enjoyed Chapter 4 the most since it was all about taco salsas. Chapter 5 was were I finally found some fruit salsas. I was honestly hoping for some more of these as I've had some strawberry salsas and others before that have been spectacular. I am really looking forward to trying the pineapple-cucumber salsa though!

I thought this was a neat cookbook overall. It would be a great addition to a gift basket for someone who loves salsas- just add some fresh ingredients, tortilla chips and cute dip bowls!

Do you have any favorite salsa recipes?! Have you checked out this cookbook?

  1. Wasn't this book amazing?! I cannot wait to make every single one of them. I love making salsas because I can't mess them up too much with cooking!
